Noteworthy Happenings

My dad sells things on Ebay. Usually in his "product description" he'll use words like "noteworthy telephone" but he'll have no reserve and sell it for $2. It always cracks me up that he would deem it noteworthy. He also found a handful of his old RayBans from the 80's and sold them all on Ebay. His "product descriptions" would read...

Awesome pair of 1986 RayBan wayfarers. Guaranteed to make you look 94% better.

And people would buy them.

So in honor of Father's Day weekend I'm deeming our weekend "noteworthy".

The Eufabs is doing better. Thanks for all your well wishes for her. I nearly fainted Sunday morning when I walked out to this scene... less than 48 hours post-op.

IMG_7455

We were given strict orders for her not to run or jump. I'm not sure how she was able to pull this off. But what can I expect from a dog who can catch deer. Seriously, she has caught a deer. She and Justin were at the farm this past winter and she caught a fawn. She just wanted to scare it and show it who was boss and then she let it free to join it's mother.

In other happenings, I've been working on John Martin's nursery. He'll be one in a week and I figured it's time to wrap things up. It's a good thing I've waited this long, it's given me a chance to get to know him and set up his nursery to suit his needs, more specifically his diaper changing needs. He absolutely DESPISES diaper changes. He literally rolls over, kicks, screams, cries; you name it he does it. I've tried everything... opera singing, screaming back, silly dancing, I've even attempted to nurse him while I changed his diaper... I was desperate. These are the only things that have brought any relief to the diaper changing sessions. Halleluiah!

IMG_7434

My kind family allowed me to snap a few pictures Father's Day morning as we were walking out the door to church. Morgan loves accessories, she did not inherit this from me. Isn't Paige hilarious? Just all smiles over there, as if nothing else in the world is going on.

IMG_7488

After great coercion we got her to take the sunglasses off for 2 seconds.

IMG_7492

John Martin was looking at me in a couple of the pictures, but of course no one else was... so this is as good as it gets.

Sunday evening, cousin Ava had us all over to celebrate Father's Day {and my belated birthday} with swimming and food!

IMG_7522

We had the most wonderful time, especially the little man.

IMG_7531

He's always delighted to be in the company of cousins. Let me go ahead and confess that rarely can I stand to keep my lips off of him! I hear boys do that to their Mommas.

Today Morgan helped me prepare for our small group. Cleaning up is her specialty...

IMG_7549

We made strawberry cupcakes with Betty Crocker's Home Style Fluffy White frosting {the powdered kind in a box not the can}. My mom has to buy the Fluffy White frosting boxes up north and mail them to me. I've yet to find it down here. Have you ever used it? It's the BEST; a fluffy, sticky, marshmallowy, meringuey frosting that is basically a 7-minute foolproof frosting in a box. The 7-minute frostings I've tried have always seperated and the sugar gets gritty. Not so with this. It's 7-minute frosting perfection and good on just about anything. And... it's shiny & pretty too!

IMG_7561

While Morgan and I "cleaned up" John Martin was busy playing Cowboys & Indians in his high chair.

IMG_7554

And then he needed a cleaning of his own. When he was done with his bath Justin brought him out like this.

IMG_7566

I can only imagine he revolted when it came time to get his diaper on so Justin said "heck with it".

Hope you also had a noteworthy weekend!

a few observations:
that boy has the best smile, and those teeth.. seriously SO cute.
boys always get the best eye lashes.
fluffy white frosting IN A BOX is the BEST. they only sell it at this store called "fiesta" here in houston
our westie was supposed to be on bed-rest for 6 weeks to heal a similar injury as eufabe. not sure exactly how this is possible.
and last but not least.. you have a precious precious family.. i love your blog, i love your positive, fun attitude.. i love that you chose to share your life with random people. thank you, it's always a bright spot in my day to read your posts.

i'm still laughing from the nursing while changing tactic!!!!! so funny that us mommies will think "crazy" to find "normal" I do this daily haha! thanks for the noteworthy post!! i feel 94% better by reading it!

I do think boys do that to their momma's! Your kids are precious and I too am still contemplating the nursing/changing diaper combo! :)

my 9 month old also bucks like a wild bronco when i change her diaper, it is a booger when she has a dirty diaper, HUGE mess, my 3 year old little girl runs the other way!

accck ... you have the cutest kids! And this is from a mom who used to think SHE had the cutest!!! :o) Beautiful pictures!

As for the diaper changing, I cried the first time my son didn't scream, fight, cry during his diaper change (he was 15 months old, by the way). I got so used to it being a nightmare and was soooo happy when that stopped! He's still a difficult kid - we realized a bit later that he has sensory issues - things are too loud, too bright, etc. for him. But it's getting better! So, hang in there. It will pass!

I recognized the little dresses as the ones you were working on? very cute!!!

oh, by the way, Evey is doing the same thing (with the diaper changing) more proof that they need to meet! When you figure out what to do, let Jordan know!

Awwww! Nothin' better than a fresh, clean, baby!
Avery hates her diaper changes, too...pull-ups seem to abate her ever-growing opinions on all things diaper-related.

MUST find some of this icing mix - it sounds/looks just like the frosting my granny would make from scratch for her famous red velvet cake. :( Miss her...and her baking.

Take Care!

I have paper lanterns in Connor's room, and I definitely agree that they help with the diapering process. He HATES it too. He will never admit that he is wet or dirty.

About all the kisses you give John Martin, yes boys do that to their moms. I am always kissing on my 2 and they just get sweeter and sweeter from all that sugar!

mandy said...

Love the paper lanterns..can't wait to see more! I understand about the kissable little boy...Mine is 7 now & I still eat him up! I really love this post...I'm gonna look for that icing here in Huntsville!

The girls dresses are adorable. Do you always coordinate all three? I love it.

These are the cutest kids on the planet!!! I love the way you dress them to match each other. This weekend was indeed noteworthy!

Since I live up north I'm going to hunt down box frosting. I bet my husband would flip over that.

I hate that I have resorted to this but.... most of the time I wait until my 2 year old boy is watching t.v with his five year old sister to change his diaper. He is a nightmare to change!! I have to mentally gear up for the challenge and will recruit any bystander stranger or not to assist me in the task.

Will check out the frosting at Fiesta!

Love your blog!!

Love the lights!!! You were defiantly desperate, a good alternative. The cupcakes looked yummy! I haven't heard of the frosting, but it sure looks good!

Your children are so beautiful! I sympathize with you on changing diapers on a screaming kicking baby. My daughter still does it, she's 20 months. I dream of her being potty trained to avoid the drama. I love your blog.

I just had 19 lbs, yes, 19 lbs of non starch spray shipped home b/c it can no longer be found in this area of the country. LOVE the internet my friend!

your family is so beautiful darby, and i love to read your stories although i have never met you - just consider me a stalker. :)

glad the k-9 is feeling good enough to plop down on the center of the couch, i have 2 labs (1 with arthritis) and they are my loves, so i understand completely!!

also, my louisa (my 2 year old) is an accessory diva too! she is such a girly-girl which cracks me up bc i really am not. we cannot leave the house without the proper shoes, purse, necklace, crown, sunglasses, etc...

Please let me know if you come up with any other grand ideas of getting a baby to like diaper changes. My 11-month old Tyson is not a fan.at.all! it's a struggle every time so he goes wet a lot of the day! : )

deyoungsters said...

My daughter doesn't hate diaper changes, but she LOVES kicking her feet! Somehow she always manages to time a kick at the one exact moment she can land her foot in a dirty diaper! How do they do that?? :)

I was encouraged to hear JM's room was a work in progress... we designed our nursery to be gender-nuetral since we wanted a surprise. Now that she is here (7 months later!) there is hardly a girly touch in sight! I have all these plans to make it pretty, but I haven't quite gotten there yet.

Oh and just to join in with everyone else... your kids are SO cute!! :)

I'm thanking God now for a sweet little angel that lets me change her diaper without any fuss! :-) Now hair rinsing....different story! Your family is so beautiful! {ps I'm cracking up over 94% better, I'd buy those sunglasses!haha} {pps....I made the chicken delight last night...delish! FYI I added sunflower seeds....yummy!}

love your blog! your little guy is looking more and more like his sisters. i just made a dessert and decided to have my boys help me... i almost just did it myself b/c it's easier that way, but i thought of your blog and know how much kids love to help. mine are good "cleaner up-ers" too. :) miss and love you, darby. i wonder if i'll ever get to see these precious kiddos in person?? if i'm ever down that way, i must call you. xoxo

Jess said...

have you tried putting stickers on the back of his hands....that always gave me 60 seconds to change a diaper while she looked at them and then tried to get them off...just don't let him eat them! love the dresses!...and now i'm off to the store...to buy frosting!

My identical twin sister and I wore dresses just like your girls when we were young and we were born in 1957! Also, we referred to those sleeves as butterfly sleeves.

I cannot believe he is almost one! What a doll! Love the pics of Justin and the kids. We made Chicken Delight last night and it was so good!

He's just the cutest little thing. You are going to be in some trouble in about 15 years!

I love the father's day picture of Justin surrounded by the kiddos, and what each child is doing tells much of who they are...JM turned around, trying to figure things out :), Paige, happy, very happy :) and Morgan sportin' her 'stuff'! I can 'hear' Justin in between the two pics, saying, "Now, Morgan, let's take off the sunglasses so that Mommy can get a picture real quick. Then, you can put them back on." :)

God's blessed me so much in having spent the time with your family to really feel like I know yall as I keep up with you guys through your blog...I know you know what I mean. :)

Thank you for your email. I hope you are enjoying this summer, and I love you, friend.

HI-larious! (about nursing while changing diaper)... can't quit laughing about that one...maybe it's a boy thing?! My sister has to change her little boy while he is walking around..he doesn't even lay down for a change, it makes me laugh every time. Never had it with the girls (yet!).

If JM likes peanut butter, try putting a little bit on his fingers right before you change his diaper. He will be busy trying to lick the peanut butter off of his fingers and you will have that diaper changed in no time. Oh, and this works on doggies, too, while you are trying to cut their toe nails. Just spread the PB on their snout. Distracts them like you would not believe.

Love your beautiful family!
