This Morning...
ran smack into our little brick post;
all while talking to my husband.
We're not really "fancy" enough for brick posts anyway.
And they were kinda ugly.
And tomorrow is "curbside pick-up".
If you need any demolition, call me!
I can do it all with kids in the car while talking on the phone, and with minimal damage to my car!
Be back soon with a weekend recap. In my opinion, this is a sign of a weekend well had.

out of control.
uncle chance did this in our driveway a couple of years ago, took out the big green power box at the end of the driveway. he can relate.
the only thing i've backed into is that boat in the yard when we first got our learner's permit.
love you!
mommasis
been there, done that! whoopsie.
Do you make the girls bathing suits or buy them?!
Holy Cow! I was expecting a LOT worse damage on your vehicle. You are so positive!!! Glad you can laugh it off!
so sorry for your morning! i backed into my husband's car a month ago. he was out of town for 11 days and i wasn't used to it being in the driveway! i moved his car 3 feet across the driveway. i'm pretty sure i could have done what you did easily!
i cant believe that tiny little cracked light did all that damage. whew!
Lovely - glad you are so optimistic! Looking forward to a great week and weekend too - isn't summer fabulous?
So sad about your post. Oh well-life happens! I made the ciniminis this morning, much to the delight of my roommates. They weren't nearly as pretty as yours, but they still tasted wonderful! Don't worry...I gave all the credit to you on my blog.
hilarious. oh, and happy happy belated birthday!!!!!! can't believe you managed all that damage, with no injury and only minor damage to your car. a few years back i managed to ram, and i mean RAM my rental car into my friends parked car while i was parking in her driveway for a visit. it was LOUD and awkward (think greeting a friend you haven't seen in years by ramming her car with lots of worried neighbors running out to gawk). not to mention the starbucks chai tea latte which rained all over me, my purse and the car. thankfully her car was miraculously unscathed, but the rental was wrecked. it must be added that her driveway is freakishly steep, and i am use to driving much smaller cars over here in europe. the only thing the insurance couldn't cover was my humiliation.
WOAH! I was preparing myself to see a crunched car; I'm impressed. 5 star frontal crash test rating applies to the tail end as well! nothing rattles that camera from your hand, does it?
Oh no. I guess it could've been worse.
Don't worry, I did that once and got so nervous put the car into drive, then back into reverse and did it a SECOND time. Still have the crack on my little honda accord. These things happen!
Oh no...sorry about the mailbox & car!!!!
I feel your pain...I backed into a concrete block leaving my workout this morning. Unfortunately, I think I did a bit more damage to my bumper.
WOW! Looking at the mess from the brick post I was expecting your car to look way worse! Glad it wasn't any worse!
LOL. You demolished that thing! :)
We could go into the demo business together.
you are one talented gal, miss darby. i can't figure out how you managed such professional demolition with only the loss of the brake light. amazing. we really could have used your skills up here on garage demo day. :)
Love a multi-tasker!
You came out pretty well, I'd say! ;)
Do I recognize that hat on that drying rack? I sure hope you got some pictures of him wearing it! I can't wait to see!
I'm a terrible "reverse" driver. The plants on my side of the driveway can attest to that. Glad the damage wasn't too severe!
Don't worry, when I was 16 I forgot to pull the parking brake up on my Jeep and my car literally rolled all the way into a brick house at the bottom of the driveway. It pushed someones bed clear across their bedroom and it looked like a scene out of a movie when I came out to see the damage. I think this happened in an episode of Full House once. I thought I would never drive again!
Ha! I bumped into a woman at the Y this morning....but I was in drive....I mean I could actually SEE the car I was about to bump. Thank God no damage was done....but my pride! ;-)
it looks like you have had some practice with minimal damage bulldozing. good job! glad you all are ok. it would have been fun to be your neighbor and watched...b/c i might would have laughed...a little. love ya
Oh MY Goodness! You are one multi-tasking AND multi-talented Momma! Hmmmm...I have an ugly & dead tree that needs "timbering!"
Too funny...and glad everyone's OK!
P.S. - Your B-day tribute to E. made me tear up. So, so sweet.
Oh no! If it makes you feel better, I turned too sharply backing out of the garage on Friday headed to VBS. I wish my damage looked as good as yours!
Once I backed out of my garage without remembering to open my new and very expensive garage door. OUCH!! At least I did it quickly and didn't dawdle in my car with the engine on...I may have been "brain dead" but at least I wasn't dead dead.
Love your blog!!
Oh girl, hate to "one up ya"....But I backed into the garage door with it
DOWN!!!!! Now, with that being said my sixteen yr. old had the best look on her face. The whole scene looked like a cartoon! And, yes damage was done to the door, and my car!!!!Susie in TExas
i have been luking for a while but had to come out in the open to say, i did this a few months ago, but it was to the neighbors mail box! at least it was your own to damage! love reading your blog!
That's okay, Darby. I backed into a car at a STOP SIGN this weekend - my minivan full of kids on the way home from soccer. I pulled out too far at wide intersection, a car was headed my way, fast. I decided to get out of the way and wait - looked in the rear view - and bumped right into the car behind me. Luckily no one in either car was hurt, but my son told me: "Mommy, you should be really ashamed of yourself."
Wow! I amazed at the very minimal damage! I tore my passenger side mirror off with someone's brick post, once...
:)))) I am so sorry!
Last year, after rounding up, loading, and buckling all of my kids(including the one in utero) into the car. I backed out of the garage and knocked the side view mirror off my car! I hadn't even taken my taken my foot all the way off the brake, much less hit the gas! It's such a terrible feeling that there is no one else to blame :)
been there.... done that. distractions are sure to get the best of us some days! i've hit 2 parked cars in my driving career!(and 2 moving ones!) ridiculous...
Oh no! Like the others commenting, I too have run into my fair share of things (fire hydrant, mail box, electic box...unforunately the list doesn't stop there!) So glad you have a great attitude about it all. :)
Boy, can I identify. I backed into a dumpster parked on our driveway while we had a reno project underway. I hate that sick feeling that comes right after you realize, oops! I think I just hit something really big. We all do silly things.
That's too funny. I've backed in to our trash can a couple times. That's a lot better than me about a month ago though. I ran in to the side of our house by the garage. I was so embarrassed as to what my neighbors thought. And my 2 year old just kept saying, "Mommy you hit our house." I felt so stupid.
OOPs. I too have been there done that. At least not too much damage to the car!!??
PS- just got your Word tutorial on stickers. It was awesome!!
my family nick named me "crash", enough said. Just get some of that red tape they sell at Walmart, slap it on that tail light and you'll be good as new!! Happy blated birthday to you and your twin. I love both of your blogs... Ashley in Tennessee
How come your swimsuit isn't in the pic?:) My mom did something similar...except it was a brick MAILBOX, it belonged to somebody ELSE, and she hit it taking a curve too fast, running late to take one of us to a birthday party :) Just glad (and sort of amazed) that your car wasn't hurt worse. Thank you Jesus! (or maybe not since I think you mentioned you wanted a new one...just back up a little faster next time ;))
when I was pregnant with #2, one afternoon I had a sitter for a whopping 3 hours. I had to get my hair cut and colored, get to post office, grocery store, and dry cleaners. I dashed out the door, threw the car in reverse and plowed right into the sitter's car. Whoops. The damage on my end was a little more severe---several special favors later, my hubby happily forgave me.
Heck, you drive just like me in Malaysia. Except when I hit something, it cost me 150 riggit to leave the scene. And the man's rear end didn't even look HALF as professional as your bang up job.
In all seriousness, glad y'all are safe!
Oh no! Wanted to let u know that I made your choc eclair desert with gluten free grahm crackers and it was awesome! Thank u soo much:)
By the looks of the bricks your car came out REALLY good!! So funny, of course you had all the kids and were on the phone, that's how we Moms roll.....
BTW I made your crock pot apple butter yesterday! (we run a summer camp..the smell was driving the staff out of their minds!! Haha!)
I am STILL laughing about this one, but feeling sorry for you at the same time. I can't believe you didn't hurt your vehicle more!
I backed out of our garage (2nd day in the new house) and took off my sideview mirror AND bent the door frame in the process. Mucho bucks.
Good thing you didn't like the brick column anyway!
About a month ago I hit one of thsoe cart return racks at the grocery store pulling INTO the parking spot.. a lady was walking towards it to put her cart away and scared the living daylights out of her.. I could not sink down in my car far enough.
I reccomend Ebay for the new tail light.. they will likely be the cheapest place to find it... you should be able to switch it out yourself, as it's probabl just 2-4 bolts & an easy change out.
This is really nice post works well and easy to configure...thanks for all info.
