My Closet & Their Room

It's cold, y'all. I will not tell you how cold it is because I'm sure some of you would reach through your screen and strangle me... the good news is that my weatherman has forecasted 72 glorious degrees on Sunday. I spent this chilly day in the house.

Today marked the beginning of the garage sale* "prep". Annie was here and together we tackled my closet. I got rid of hope to sell HALF of my clothes. Seriously. I did. Look...

closet1

I haven't tackled the kids closets yet but they're on the list too. I did work on the girls room today and as I scurried about I realized I've never shared pictures of it. {Probably because it's still a work in progress.} The morning sun was shining in and I decided I'd snap a few pictures of my favorite accoutrements {that's for you Everlie}.

First, it used to look a little bit like this... plush orange shag... mmmm!

The beds came from KMart {unfortunately they don't carry them any more}. The light fixture used to be gold and hang in the foyer. The seersucker comforters came from Ross. The skirts were made with fabric from Buy Fabrics. And... the curtains are from our old house and I can't remember where the fabric came from. The wall color {which I notice looks different in every picture} is by Benjamin Moore and I think it's Wedgewood. Once I have it all pulled together I'll snap the "big picture".

There are 2 other things I just have to share...

closet2

This little man {with the wrist, hand & finger fat} was up on all 4's today pretending like he was going to CRAWL. The girls didn't crawl FOREVER... in fact, Paige NEVER crawled, she scooted on her bottom like a monkey... and neither walked until 15 months. This little guy may give me a run for my money! Kara, thanks for his book... we're big Fuzzy Bee fans around here!

Last but not least, this one's for your hands; they'll thank you and me. Mine suffer from dishpan dryness... some of yours probably suffer from sub-zero temps and dishpan dryness.

Ok, it's late and this Mommy doesn't feel too hot... off to bed!

Goodnight!

*garage sale is on the books {in ink} for March 7!

I just posted my closet today too! It's my goal to keep it clean for the entire year. I've been feeling bad for my husband for a while so it's finally time for me to take the plunge into orderliness.

The girl's room is adorable and good luck with the garage sale.

i'm gonna get in so much trouble for saying this, but i bet you already know. i am so glad you are having it the first weekend in march. key words being first weekend. i'm guessing you know why that is always the best weekend. if not, then email me. i would be glad to be the girls' roommate. their beds look deliciously girly and i think i would make a robe out of that bedskirt. i'm just sayin!!

I adore the dust ruffle fabric! Thanks for the link! I went there and found it - it's called "Gypsy Spring". Perfect for a girl's room!

Your garage sale will make you so happy...such a good feeling to get rid of all those extras!

Your pics of JM brought a smile to my face. Not only because he's simply adorable (wrist fat - yum!)but of course I loved seeing those snuggly striped pants! :) I'm happy they're in use again...and not in MY closets!

Darby,
Will you please post a general summary of what you'll be selling at your garage sale?? I live in Blakely, Ga. and would LOVE to shimmy over the state line to your bargain bazzar. Also, (don't know how you want to do this) but how do I get to your house??? If you don't mind, can you email directions?? (crawford7078@windstream.net) Can't wait!!!

I didn't realize that Paige didn't walk until 15 months! That makes me feel better. :) My little girl is nearly 13 months and showing 0 signs of wanting to walk. She is feisty about everything else, so I have been surprised by this stubbornness to even stand by herself, even though she can! :)

The girls room looks adorable! I love the color of the walls.

Hey Darby. My husband can speak Russian because he lived in Moscow for 2 years. He served a mission for our church. We are Mormon...but, Justin knows that--he kept trying to convert me in high school. Ha ha ha.

Love their room - I can't wait to see the whole picture! Little girls rooms are son fun - too bad I only have 1!!!! Little boy rooms are not quite as easy - I don't do "characters" and it just seems boring, I'm stuck - any ideas would be great! Emma Claire's room is my favorite room in the house - I'll have to share it one day! It's cold here too - and my hands and entire body for that matter feel like a desert!!!! I can't wait until Saturday - 65 degrees and I'm playing tennis again! That's exciting about JM crawling (Ha Ha!) Henderson started at 7 months and at 9 months is now cruising and standing on his own - these boys need to SLOW DOWN!!!!

I am so glad you posted the pictures of the girls' room! I wondered what you had done in there :) I ordered the crib fabric (as shown on the blog), but I am still in search of a print for the drapes. The one I found and love is $20/yd. Yikes (at 6 yds, that's quite a lot!). Anyway...thanks for the inspiration! LOVE it all!

One of my favorite things is to clean out my closets! Isn't it so refreshing!? Thanks for the ice box cake idea, that's on my grocery list and I'm LOVING the room remodel. :-) My little angel is getting to be so grown up, I'm already looking at toddler beds....{my sister Megan and I will be at the Yard Sale....hope to see you there!}

You know I never did walk past your kithchen those past two visits (I sorta wanted to but didn't want you to feel like I was putting you on the spot checking out your bedrooms :)). Now I wish I'd thrown politeness to the wind and run back there! How cute is the girls' room?!! Next time, get ready (actually don't get ready. if the bed's aren't made I'll just throw the comforter back to get the jist) 'cause I'm headin' to the back of the house.

Darby, someday - when you get time - can you share how you painted the light fixture in the girls' room? I have a gold chandelier that I'd love to paint white.

ooh i love the girls room. We are in the process of a move and we have picked out the Wedgewood color for a room so it was nice to see it on a wall. you are so talented. i think you have more hours in your day than i do.

Darby-
We must be on the same wave length, I had a friend who has a business of "organizing" come and help me out with getting my office are organized.
She just left after 4 hours and I feel so much better. We donated some of the unused items and the rest was recycled! Now I have a clean desk and room to create. I love that room, the fabrics, the photos, all so cheery!

Your girls room is darling..can't wait for the full picture. I wish I lived close enough to come to the garage sale. I have slowly cleaned out my closet and it has made it so much easier finding clothes to wear. Oh and look at that precious wrist fat!! ;)
