Any gardeners out there!?

This is the only plant that was in our yard when we purchased our home last fall (but was already done blooming for the season)... and I can't seem to put my finger on it! In fact, I'm not even certain I've ever seen anything like it. The blooms are gorgeous but pretty much open up wide during the day and then they're spent. Gone! Just like that. Thankfully there is always another bloom (or two) the next morning. If anyone can tell me what this is I'd love to know! It stands about 4 to 4 1/2 feet tall!

Hibiscus, like the ones on the azalea pool grounds . . . or at least there used to be lots of hibiscus there.

I think it looks like a hibiscus. They will come back year after year even if not tended to.

Sister!
I noticed that jewel when I was there! What you have is a Disco Hibiscus... they are a big version of a hibiscus, in fact I just dug a big red one up over at the Quinns old house, I haven't planted it yet (can't decide where I would enjoy it most)... but they are a fabulous plant... mine is huge, those white blooms are glorious. check it out here:

I was going to tell you what EZ said...I second the "Disco Hibo"! It's a beauty. We have small Hibiscus in 5 pots on our back deck and Piper loves to eat the ones that have bloomed and then shriveled up...she is going to get sick on my floor one day!

My guess is definitely a Hibiscus.

I was going to say "mallow hibiscus" which I've now learned is the same as a "disco hibiscus."

I was going to say Pretty White Flower. LOL :) What a beautiful plant. Thanks for your sweet comments. I am thinking about you all. I know this recovery has to be so hard. Hang in there! Please let me know if you need me to help out with the girls, especially when your mom is gone. :) Love you!

My guess is Rose of Sharon, which is in the Hibiscus family.

We have a pink one on the side of our house. The blooms only last for about a day, then fall to the ground rolled up like a short cigar. If you cut a piece with buds and bring it inside in a vase, it will bloom indoors. My daughter and I put some in her room and she can wake up in the morning to a new flower.
