Weekend Recap

THANK YOU for all your HAPPY BIRTHDAY wishes!

We had a delightful weekend. I will quickly recap it in pictures because there is a piece of folded fabric on my kitchen counter and I came in my office to retrieve my pin cushion and well, got a little side-tracked.

My birthday started with a BANG. Literally. At 2 am Saturday morning we were awakened by the horrific sound of a sleeping child falling fast and painfully from their bed to the hardwood floors. It was Morgan.

Justin found her face down in a pool of blood. Her forehead and a front tooth took the brunt of her fall. Mouths bleed a lot. A lot. Her tooth was knocked loose but not out. It has tightened back up but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't turn a lovely shade of brown. She's never fallen out before... now she has bedrails to keep her in because it will NEVER happen again.

In spite of a minor injury we proceeded with our plans to head to the beach to visit Erika & Chance. I took ZERO pictures Saturday. We spent the day poolside and Marla treated us to not only to a lovely pool-side picnic lunch but dinner too... thank you! And a BIRTHDAY CAKE that Erika's precious little dogs ate while we were at the pool.

Sunday morning started in Grayton. With a quick walk to the beach before breakfast.

Followed by a wonderful breakfast at the Red Bar.

When we pulled up this little fella was in the car next to me. I obviously couldn't resist. I love any dog with an underbite.

Little did I know there was another "colorful" creature inside.

IMG_7070

Morgan loves all creatures. Paige is scared to death of all creatures; she wouldn't even get close to it.

On the other hand, I couldn't pry Morgan away.

We met some very precious friends of ours who happened to be on vacation at the beach for breakfast. Friends from when we lived in Anniston, AL. When moved to Anniston from Tallahassee I went kicking and screaming the whole way. I wasn't too thrilled about moving there. Before we moved we prayed for a friend for me when we got there... He answered. Here she is with her precious girls:

IMG_7112

Amy is a wonderful friend and I love her dearly. We can always pick right back up where we left off, even if we haven't talked for a few months. She has many roles in our friendship: personal lactation consultant {and a darn fine one considering none of my have weened before age 1}, my confidant when times are hard, and a friend who I know I can always count on for a listening ear or prayer! I love her! However, I don't love this picture but it's all we took. I look like I'm sitting on her lap or trying to box her out or something. Ugh! But for the sake of my memory and because I love her... I'm posting it. If I was good with photoshop {I guess in order to be good at it I'd have to have it} I'd rearrange us and put her on my lap! Anyway, I loved our morning together... despite lots of activity with the little ones.

After breakfast I took John Martin back to Erika's for a nap. The rest of them headed to the beach for a lot of this:

GoMorgan

Chance pulled Morgan around on a skim board for hours. And from what I heard she had it down pat! Then today Erika sent me an email and told me this wasn't the first time Chance had done it. This is Chance and his brother, Bayn, around 1985-ish. He's certainly mastered it over the years! He used to be pulled and now he has to do all the pulling!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch I was trying to keep John Martin out of the dog food.

And the Fruit Loops {he'll probably never touch another plain Cheerio as long as he lives}.

JMfruitloops

All while trying to keep myself out of Erika's killer candy bowl.

IMG_7127

It's a wonder she and Chance have any teeth in their heads. And it's a wonder they both are as small as they are. Lets just say their meals aren't always "well-balanced".

IMG_7128

Especially since we are so well-balanced.

IMG_7142

John Martin declared he'd like Fruit Loops and Whataburger french fries for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

IMG_7133

Whatever you say little man, whatever you say.

Ok, time's up. I hear my fabric screaming, "Come back!"

It was a wonderful weekend, thanks for having us. After driving home with John Martin screaming we won't be back any time soon, good thing we had such a great time!

Looks like a fun time was had by all.
My kids love that huge tub of cheese balls - it's the regular snack of choice for all the neighborhood kids at our house.

That candy jar makes me think of visits to my Great Aunt Martha's house...she always had a dish of candy (unheard of at our own house)
and we loved going to visit her...because we got to see her , of course, but there was that (never empty) candy dish! haha

Breakfast at the Redbar? I think that is my most favorite part of going to the beach- the Red Bar!

I love the picture of the parrot in Morgan's arms...I wanna hold a parrot like that! :)

I love the Red Bar!! Too bad there wasn't the parrot last time I was there - looks like fun :) What a great birthday weekend with family and friends. I'm glad it appears Morgan was ok after the initial pain from her fall - I worry about that happening to Adriana all the time (we have hardwood floors in the bedrooms also) now that she's in her big bed... poor girl!

oh, and I made the cucumber dill spread this week and my whole family loved it! It didn't last long :)

My family and I were down in the same area this week. We stayed in Redfish Village in Blue Mountain. Monday afternoon a group of moms were hanging out on the steps in the pool. Another mom joined us. One of the girls introduced us and she said, "This is Marla, she's a photographer." I thought for a moment and said, "I think I've heard of you through a blog I read."

Sure enough, her shop was in the village where we stayed. I pressed my face in her studio windows (after hours, of course!) and there were hundreds of beautiful framed pictures.

It's a small (blogging) world, after all!

Your trip looked like a fun! And your kids are cuties. :)

Once, when my little sister fell out of bed, she didn't even wake up! Of course, she didn't knock her tooth loose. Poor Morgan!

Looks like fun!!! :) Love the parrot pics! Too funny.
Have a great day!!! Wishing for some of that p.b. pie RIGHT now. You were so thoughtful. Instead, I am off to walk! Happy day! Can't wait to see what you're whipping up with the fabric!

Fun! Get back to that fabric an then blog it, I'm always interested to see what you'll do! :-) (PS- I just want to say I love how you blog about the imperfections of your life like when Morgan fell, my little one is always falling or bruising or whatever and I makes me have 'bad mama' moments. But then I see that it happens to us all! You make me feel normal Darby! :0) Thanks for sharing!)

Just wanted to say how absolutely beautiful your children are! I love your pictures, recipes, and projects. Shauna (went to your church for a while) showed me your site and I love it.

I had to smile at JM going after the dog food. I have a 14 month old that loves to try to get her hands in our dog's food anytime I forget to close the laundry room door (where we keep the dog bowls)! Happy Belated B-day to you and your sis!

So precious. I am happy that Morgan is okay, that is scary!! I love how you post through great pictures and clever storytelling and I'm glad you and erika got to spend your bday together!

That last picture of JM is too much. What a fun weekend!

Glad you had a great weekend with E and Chance. Sorry about Morgan's tooth. Av did the same thing on our coffee table. It has stayed a little discolored and crooked, but at least it's not permanent! Less than 48 hours until he's here-still no final decision on a name!

What wonderful pics! My 4-year-old daughter has the same blue & white sundress that Morgan is wearing in those photos. It's one of her favorites b/c it's comfy and a perfect "twirl" dress.

ALL of your kids are cute, but John Martin, OH MY! I think because I love his age? I could just look at pictures all day (in a non-creepy way) and squeal with delight!!!

Your birthday beach weekend looks wonderful! My family (& I) LOVE those beaches. I am sorry to hear about Morgan's fall. I had a son who did the same thing when he was 4, and never again. Thankfully. He is 16 now. The time passes quickly!

How wonderful....meeting your friend while in vacation. I totally get the 'picking right up even after many months' - I too have many friends that have moved out of town or even in town, which I don't get to see often but when we do meet, it's just like we've never been apart...other than the kids getting older. Praying for you & your sister's family to be blessed in this coming year! God Bless.....

Please do not get JM's haircut - he is such a dollbaby. Love the hair!!!

I made a mental note to myself to add that to the places to visit after I saw the beach, then checked out the link you posted. Turns out, I'll be there next month (watercolor), just on the other side of Western Lake! Yippee, now I'm looking forward to it even morseo.

Morgan still looks so sweet, even after that little (or large) spill. She's just too precious!

What a fun weekend, but I tell you, I get tired just LISTENING to your stories. Though they all look like fun,(except for Morgan's fall), I know you must have been SO tired after the weekend!! How blessed you are! Your children are BEAUTIFUL!

Grayton and tge entire Beaches of South Walton area is our favorite place in the whole world. How lucky of you to spend your weekend there with great family and friends! Makes the outlet shopping trip and carry out dinner I'm planning on for my birthday tonight seem so insignificant now. Just kidding....it'll be a blast! Thanks for sharing pictures though.....I now know we CANNOT forgo our yearly Grayton vacation even with a 3 mo old!

I know I would give anything to John Martin, too, if he were looking at me with that sweet little face! He is just precious, as are your girls! Y'all remind me of my family!

The water & sand in that area is just beautiful! Good for you guys for soakin' it up!!

My daughter (2 1/2) slipped in the bathroom and landed down on her face on the tile about a month ago. It bled and now I'm afraid her tooth looks slightly tinted. Is this something to take them in for?

Aw, this post made me so homesick. I'm from Corpus Christi, home of Whataburger, but I haven't been back in 3 years. Glad JM had enough fries for the both of us.
