I Can't Believe I'm Posting This...

It should be illegal to post these pictures after posting my sweet little 2-year olds face yesterday... but there are two things I need to know. And since every time I ask y'all questions you come through with flying colors for me.

I am rather ashamed to be asking both of these questions. Neither have any importance from an eternal perspective but both are questions that have been on my mind the last 24 hours.

FIRST
Last night Justin took the girls to church and I stayed home with little man. He had a bath and was in bed by 7... so guess what? I was too. I crawled into bed and turned on the tv. Go ahead, cast your judgement... we have a tv in our bedroom! Thankfully we are self disciplined tv watchers... if such thing can exist. I waste about 30 minutes a week on tv. Usually it's the very depressing news that I watch... or the weather. Anyway, you'll never believe what I wasted my time on last night.... you really won't believe me. I pushed in 3-3 on the remote. 33. That's TWC {The Weather Channel}. And I pushed in 3-3 because I was too lazy to push 3-7 which is TLC {The Learning Channel}, so I just push 3-3 and then the up arrow 4 times to get to 37, which is where I was hoping to find Jon & Kate plus 8. Well, somewhere between 33 and 37 I found this:

Dog: The Bounty Hunter. Yes, I watched it. The whole episode. I think I was so in shock by him and his wife, Beth that I couldn't figure out what exactly is that they do. From what I gathered, they hunt down criminals who have warrants out for their arrest but they aren't licensed law enforcement...?? Anyway, they catch these tool bags and take them to the police station and drop them off... already handcuffed. Then they're off for the next tool bag. But, who pays them to do this stuff... besides A&E? They drive these pimped out cars and appear as though they aren't too bad off. So, what is plaguing my mind {ok, exaggeration} is: who pays Dog to do this? That is what I'd like to know. And, if you are ever up for wasting your time jaw-dropping television... might I suggest Dog & his wife Beth.

SECOND
I can't believe I'm posting this either. This will probably show you that I'm still wearing high-waisted jeans and praying they come back in style soon. Heck, they probably are back in style and I don't even know it. If it doesn't happen on Dog: The Bounty Hunter or between my house and preschool... I just don't know about it... seriously! Ok, so in recent outings around town {ie- Target, Winn Dixie, etc} I keep seeing these people with these purses... I see them everywhere. And I apparently haven't gotten the memo yet because I don't know what they are or where they are coming from. All I know is that they look like a big black and white giraffe print and apparently come with different colored straps! Can someone please enlighten me?
Thanks! :)

I cannot answer both questions but I must make a confession.... Everytime I stumble across Dog and Beth I stop and watch. It's like you're hypnotized and can't turn away. These people are so fascinating in a wierd way. They love God and they love America. They just are very different from you and me. Anyway, it's the bail bondsmen that pay Dog. The people he picks up have skipped bail. Hope this makes sense.

the purses are dooney & bourke and there are tons of knock-offs out there now, too! that explains why you see them everywhere! by the way- my best friend is a buyer for a boutique & so i know that high-waisted jeans have been "in" lately. you are not too far behind!

Ok can't believe I'm about to say this, but what the heck....those are the biggest boobs I've ever seen!!! The poor woman must have serious back problems. Not to mention gravity is most likely her number one enemy.

According to your sis, it's breast cancer awareness month, so inadvertently you two were on the same page today.

Must be a twin thing. [sorry for pun]

That was too funny seleta.. my husband watches Dog - I've watched it a couple times with him and once you sit down and get involved in it, it is actually funny! We have a tv in our bedroom and oh how I love to get in bed by 7:00!!! Don't EVER be ashamed!
As for the purses, not my cup of tea - not that I wouldn't love an expensive, name brand, awesome purse, but I just don't have the time to shop for one (or the money) =)

Darby... When I read the title of your post (in Google Reader) I was expecting to read, "I'm pregnant again!" ;) Hope all is well!

d-bone,
i know i'm out of the loop too on fashion, but i have bought 1 purse in the past 5 years probably-and guess what i purchased? it's the print you've described with red trim. i just thought it was cute when i saw it at a little store in elba, alabama several months ago. HOWEVER, i have since noticed that LOTS & LOTS of other people had the same idea....so i now match 30% of the population of 40-somethingish women who also had good taste! who knew?

Hi Darby! I've been following your blog for a couple of months now, and I love your writing. I'm new to blogging, but I've been so encouraged by reading what other Christian women write about how they make it through the day to day ups and downs of raising a family. Can't help you with Dog, but I can help with the purses! I'm sure most of what you are seeing are knock-offs, rather than the "real" D & B, as even many of my high school students have them! I've seen them at Burnham's and even at Kirkland's (yes the home decor store!)

I think the bail bondsmen. I had to ask Michael because he is pretty familiar with bounty hunters having worked at the health department. One of his patients heard the voice of the bounty hunter jumped out of the chair and tackled the bounty hunter and took him down!! The funny think was, the patien was a girl!!! Michael said she is not the lady you would want to tick off!!

1. I had to get J to explain this to me a while back. Hypothetical explanation: If I get arrested and have $10K bail, I pay a bondsman $1K (10% of bail) and he pays the full amount to the court. When the court date/verdict occurs the bondsmen gets the money back. If I skip town/don't show up for the hearing he is now out $9K and hires (or is himself) a bounty hunter to bring my a** back to jail/court and get his money. Hope that makes sense.

2. Dooney and Bourke (legit and knock-off)

One other thing completely unrelated to Dog and animal print purses-go check out this post http://www.testosterhome.net/2008/10/then-and-now.html

I appreciated it, and thought you also might like it!
Love you

I bought a giraffe print wallet with green accents a while ago in Thomasville, GA at one of the boutiques... I didn't see them around until recently though! Had no idea where everyone else was getting them - I didn't realize D&B made them and now there are knock-offs everywhere... I just happen to like giraffe print!

Hi Girl, I too cant' stop myself from watching so don't feel bad, don't feel about the TV either (guilty). You want to know an even more interesting fact about Dog?....the mind reels right?.... My hubby and I spent 2 weeks in Hawaii about 2 years ago (Dog lives in and the show is shot in Oahu) in which was the Fourth of July. We spent our Nation's Birthday IN Pearl Harbor...talk about touching! No more than 100 yards from the Arizona Memorial. It was very special. Do you want to know what over 500 people were doing there? Waiting in line for over 3 HOURS to get Dog and Beth's autograph....geez! What is this Nation coming too!? :0) Keep postin' girl! ~Melise

1. i don't know much about "dog." i think i stumbled upon his show one night while channel surfing...and could only take about 30 seconds. ;) HOWEVER, his wife is incredibly boobocious! wow!! those things are NOT playing around!
2. the purses: i am no help here either.
3. you MUST have santa bring ya'll some TOMS! they are so comfy--you will want a pair for yourself too. the TOMS website has some fun prints. and yes, the velcro is great--makes them easy to get on and off! [though the adult versions don't have the velcro--just slip off an on.]

so funny... similar tv flipping at odd hours got me hooked on Scott Baio is 45 and single. that's right. i stumbled on it one night, got hooked, downloaded the entire series and stayed up late nights in a row after kids bed and dinner time and watched the entire first season in under a week. how is that for sad?

D-
I got my purse like that (w/ lime green strap) in Auburn at Heartstrings. Apparently half of Alabama got one there too ;)

I informed a friend last night that I would need a new one soon & she got THE cutest (faux) red leather hobo purse at Kmart.

Unfortunately, my tv only carries disney, noggin & ESPN (i think). So... I rely on you (and blog world) to keep me posted on things like Dog.

Darby,
I used to be confused about bounty hunters, then I started reading the "Stephanie Plum" series of books by Janet Evanovich. Not only does she explain how the bondsman/bounty hunter thing works, but the books are so funny you laugh out loud reading them. I also have 3 little ones at home, and I've found that reading is better than the TV for my 20 min. of quiet time a day, although I might have to give this Dog guy a chance- I want to watch just to see if his wife tips over!

Wait a second......am I supposed to NOT have a TV in my bedroom?????? I CERTAINLY did not get THAT memo.

Good Morning,
I came across your blog through L.A.'s blog. I got tickled about Dog and Beth (unfortunatley we share the same name, yikes!) Anyway, they are like a car wreck, you don't really want watch, but you can't stop staring at them. The hair, the clothes...her chest!
As for the purses, I live in Phenix City and EVERYONE has them. I work at a college at all the students have them. I got mine at a boutique at the new Pier Park shops in Panama City this summer, but apparently they sell them everywhere. I have seen them in several shops in Phenix City and Columbus,GA.

Enjoyed seeing your blog!

Darby, this is too funny. People often laugh when I tell them that I enjoy watching Dog the Bounty Hunter. Tue story...I even DVR it and watched a few missed episodes last night. I guess overall I can appreciate that they're doing their job, but trying to be a good influence on those they pick up.

My favorite line from an episode I watched last night was something to the extent of "We're coming for him and we're bringin' prayers and mace." Definitely made me laugh :)

I just did a post about Dog on my blog: natalani.blogspot.com

The Chapman Family are awesome, and it does take a while to get used to their style, but they really are helping to clean up the islands in a positive and spiritual way. As far as their fashion sense I decline to comment!

OK- well I haven't read all the comments, but the purses are knock off dooneys and you can get them at mall stands.
AND, there was a couple in our supper club a few years ago that came to a Halloween party as Dog and his wife. I didn't know who they were at the time, but apparently they are famous outside the ring of us high-waisted jean wearers. It was hilarious!

I have been reading your blog and I love it! I too have seen the purses and I think they are cute, I just don't think I could pull it off.

As far as Dog and Beth, I understand the strange pull. When my husband and I went to Hawaii with a couple of friends last summer, guess where our first stop was? Yep, the Da Kine Bail Bonds office to see if we could find Dog and Beth. No such luck but the Hawaiian people had lots to say on that subject!

Sorry I am responsible for your genetic flaw..There's a whole world of really quality tv out there that your missing. Tilla Tequilla, I love New York, Cheaters, Blind Date and the "Macy's Day Parade of them all!" Cop's Marathon!
Unfortunately I grew up with Lassie, Mannix,Gun Smoke, Bonanaza and Bewitched.
Thank goodness for flat screen HiDef!
Oh yea and the two Corey's............LYDB

Oh my, Darby! I think you should stick to Jon and Kate, plus 8! I haven't watched the Dog and his Beauty myself but maybe I need to!

As for the purses, I have seen them everywhere too and have decided that I am TOO LATE for this trend.....they are fading fast!

I also noticed that the high waisted pants are back for Fall and I am not happy about it! They make my back end look huge! Oh well, I am sure I will get me a pair, and just try to always exit backwards!

MEGAN said...

they're paid by the government...the amount of the outstanding warrant, they get for catching the guys!

my husband loves the show! It hurts my eyes to watch people dressed like that.
