Cheerios & Brinner

We've entered the Cheerio stage with JM. Here are some very brief thoughts on our new stage of babyhood...

They're good:

HappyJM

They're bad:

BadCheerios

& they're ugly:

UglyCheerios

You know that sound... don't you? It kinda sounds like this "cccrrrrruuuuunnnnccchhh". But they're worth all the little crunches because they can bring MOST of this screams to a screeching hault.

On the home front today we're running a fever infested household. Well, not a complete infestation... just Morgan and Raiger; they're both feeling pretty pitiful. Annie {our sitter} said she's still willing to come! So I'm locking myself in the playroom and hoping for BIG results!

Let me share a mortifying story. Yesterday Melinda was here {she's the very nice lady who comes 2x a month to clean our house}. I was in the kitchen {trying to stay one step ahead of her} when I overheard Morgan in the den...

Morgan says, "Ms. Melinda, come look at this rug. John Martin spit up all over it. Here and here and here so you're going to have to clean it up real good!"

Oh my, I wanted to die. I ran in there and gently explained to Morgan that Melinda had plenty to do without Morgan pointing things out to her. I tried to explain quickly that what she did wasn't very nice. She didn't quite get it... she said she was just trying to help. I thought I'd die. Melinda went on to say that last time she was here Morgan told her she needed to clean really good under her bed because there's always dust under it when she climbs under... and that Melinda probably needs to move the beds to clean under them "real good". Lord, help me! My 4 year old is going to run our housekeeper off! And I'm going to die of embarrassment.

What's for brinner, deer?

Last night we had "brinner"-- that's breakfast for dinner-- and Paige was my sous chef. I made homemade waffles {but I whipped the egg whites and folded them in at the end}... I turned around to dig for the baking powder as Paige explained, "I weally yike deese eggies". I looked back to see Raiger with a moutful of raw egg whites, at least they were whipped and stiff... doesn't that help? We ate our waffles with sliced cheddar cheese & deer sausage... it was so good. I used to be a snob about deer meat... I was of the opinion "I don't eat wild game"... but now I have a freezer full of it and guess what.... it tastes REALLY good! I also used to be in the dark about Aunt Jemima "Butter Lite" syrup... if any of you are in the dark... consider yourself "now informed" and buy it at the grocery store.

Ok. I must get to the playroom.

Happy Friday! Mom's supposed to be coming this weekend... I'm giddy, she came when JM was born {June 30} and we've been anxiously awaiting her return since!

My two year old still loves cheerios and thankfully we have a couple of dogs willing to eat up those little bits that end up on the floor.

Aunt Jemima Butter Lite is our favorite! I keep several bottles on hand at all times so we are never without such syrupy-sweet goodness. I don't think there's anything "lite" tasting about it!

Have fun with your mom. There's nothing better than "mommy time" - even as an adult! :)

Hey Darby,
Your pictures of your bird feeders reminded me of this poem I just love by Edgar Fawcett
"To an Oriole"
How falls it oriole, thou hast come to fly
In tropic splendor through our Northern sky?
At some glad moment, was it Nature's choice
To dower a scrap of sunset with a voice?
Or did some orange tulip flaked with black,
In some forgotten garden, ages back,
Yearning towards heaven, until it's wish was heard.
Desire unspeakably to be a bird?
Have a great day!
Aunt Anne

Darby, Have I told you yet that I do like your new blog!?! :) I do!
Hey! We eat deer meat, too! Every time Russell's parents visit, they bring us a freezer full of it! We just had some deer sausage that had a jalapeno cheese mixed into it! :) Twas yummy and spicy!! We need to bring you guys some. I'm glad to know y'all are deer meat fans!! ;)
Regarding your last blog post, our favorite Girl Scout cookies are Thin Mints and, of course, Samoas! YUM!
I'm sorry that I did not call yesterday...I so needed a nap after I fed Rhys, so I opted for that. I probably should not try you today since you're expecting Mom! :) Yay!! Ya'll enjoy the weekend together! How long is she visiting?
We're headed to N'ville tomorrow thru Sunday for a wedding...we've booked a nice hotel room, and the wedding and reception should be like a nice date night (with Rhys!). :) Please pray that we do enjoy a nice date weekend. I'll call you next week after your mom's visit so that we can catch up and discuss weekends for us to come down.
We're very interested and serious IF and ONLY IF it works for you guys...NO big production! We'll bring the deer meat...y'all have the waffle mix ready! ;) Let's keep it down home and simple! We'll bunk with JM!! ;)

HILARIOUS about Morgan telling your houskeeper what to do - sounds like something Emma Claire would say...IF we had a housekeeper - oh yeah we do, ME!
LOVE Brinners - and LOVE Aunt Jemima Butter Lite syrup - I can eat it on just about ANYTHING!
Henderson is WAY past cheerios - he's eating EVERYTHING these days - even grilled chicken - those 6 teeth are like razors!

that's the only syrup I use! I love it! I haven't had deer meat in SO long, but when my dad used to hunt we would eat it...very good! Now I'm craving waffles and deer meat - I need to stop reading your blog when I'm hungry! ;)

Cheerios are a lifesaver around here! I give them to the kids every morning as an appetizer and stock up on them at Sam's. And we happen to have dogs who like them, so that's ONE thing I don't have to clean up.
And good for you with your Brinner! That sounds great!
Hope the fever goes away soon. Have a great weekend with your mom! What a treat!

Don't worry they all do it. She probably got a good laugh. ST told Lois the other day that if she missed his basketball game this weekend, she would "be fire." Now, I know he didn't get that from either of us, because those words will never-ever leave my mouth! haha.

darby, I just love your blog! this post made me smile because I LOVE brinner! I have to bargain with my husband in order to get to eat it... and Aunt Jemima is always a must at our table!

love the pictures...and the waffles sound yummy!!

can i just tell you that my child is in her crib having some "time out" bc she is so absolutely distraught that the video of justin singing to JM is on the blink. [i think you tube is down...] anyway, i have tried everything "it's broken!" "we'll see him later!" "it's gone night, night!"

nothing...she is melting!

so if justin ever makes it big--we will be first in line!

...and by first in line, i meant to buy the CD [in case that didn't make any sense!] :)

I am so glad your mom is coming. It's so good for both of you as well as the kids. That Morgan is so grown up! She was only trying to help. LOL I do hope the housekeeper stayed. Have a wonderful weekend.

Those little angels are just too cute. My Luke had a newborn gown in the same fabric as JM's sleeper. (sniff, sniff) I'm a big Carter's fan. My boys have probably eaten their weight in Cheerios, although lately Luke prefers Teddy Grahams. Hope he hasn't "graduated" from the Cheerios. Have fun with your mom....there's nothing like mom time!

Yum! I have a great waffle recipe made with sour cream. It's an old one. I'll post it so you can give it a try. I promise they're like Waffle House. We scarf down the whole batch. Just one little thingy on the deer meat, which I am not opposed to, but the shells have lead in them. You may shoot ones only killed with arrows, but if the girls (or you, if feeding JM) are eating a lot of it, you might want to watch the quantity. As you know it doesn't take a whole lot of lead to be hazardous for young children, pregnant, or nursing moms. OF COURSE if it's not much, it wouldn't matter anyway, but if you use it a lot, you might want to ask someone who knows more about it than me. Sorry if I have given you more info than you care to have. :) Enjoy your weekend. Looking forward to seeing you at worship tomorrow.

You don't know me, but I just love your blog (I hope that's not too scary!) It is so fun to read, and you have such great ideas!

But I had to share, my dad always said that he felt like Cap'n Crunch, walking through the cheerios. I think it is funny!
