Wrap Up

There are so many little details of our life that I desire to document and capture in this blog. But every post takes time and energy. As I type right now Morgan is resting her chin on my forearm while she asks, "What is that that you are typing? Who are you writing to?" You see, post "operation no thumb suck" we have turned into a household with a 4-year old that no longer naps BUT desperately needs to nap. I still think I'd rather her not suck her thumb than take a nap, but some days I'm not so sure. Anyway, my afternoons that used to be filled with time at the computer or in the laundry room or at the kitchen sink are no longer times of solitude, my sous chef/co-pilot is never far from my side. It is a delight to have her company but can also hinder my efficiency.

With that said, I'm going to wrap up last week in one post!

Our family has a new favorite pastime... wiffle ball. I am embarrassed to tell y'all how sore I am from playing wiffle ball in our back yard. I "wiff" a lot and I think that's why I am so sore. It hurts to swing as hard as you possibly can and MISS. We started with the roof being a home run. But our skills quickly improved so we had to move a "home run" to over the roof. We have laughed really hard and I am still afraid Justin is going to line-drive the ball to my face. You should see me throw it to him... I throw it fast and duck. I have no glove. Maybe I just need a face mask. We have been very entertained by our new sport and Morgan can nail the ball.

Next up, John Martin. He's always out there with us, chewing on grass and breaking in his new teeth.

Aren't babies' teeth hilarious? I find his little jack-o-lantern smile simply irresistable. He loves to hold the wiffle balls and I can already see he is anxious to take a swing at it.

Morgan had her end of the year party last week. She's finishing out "3-year old" preschool and they wrapped up the year with a Sprinkler Party. It was as entertaining as the end of the year program.

The parents weren't the only ones watching... those who weren't included were green with envy.

Last week also marked our first harvest from the garden. Sugar snap peas, yellow squash & zuccinni.

My creation

Paiger was up with the sun one morning and graciously assisted me in my morning watering routine.

Thanks, Seleta for the "adorable" jammies!

I also whipped up JM a little onesie to match his sister's dresses. I simply ironed Heat'nBond light onto the fabric and then cut out the owls, peeled away the parchment backing, & ironed the owls on the onesie.

Ok, John Martin is up... be back soon with another recipe!

okay, me again - with another question. your pics have sent me on a lens/photographer overnight hunt. i think i need one of the 50 mm 1.8 lenses and one more question.....do you not have to worry about your subject moving when you have the low fstop?

also - did you use the same lens on these photos?? they look great - i had my manual out last night until 2 am (NO sewing was done, oops) and am more confused that i was to begin with. hehe.

Hi,

I found your blog a few weeks back and totally relate to much you have to say! Esp. the agony of giving up nap-time...i.e. some "me" time. I have four children 12 on down to 12 months. Life is much easier to handle when you have a few moments of solitude each day. As I no longer have that solitude I remind myself that years from now when they are grown I'll have days FULL of quiet and yes, possibly be wishing for my noisy chatotic times with them back. But its so hard to keep that focus when I just want a stinkin' five minutes of peace to fold laundry???? It's not as if we're eating bon-bons. =)
But thanks again for sharing...it's good to know your not alone!

I am home on weekends with my 4 and 5 year old sons and we ALL have nap time! I've found if I lay down with them, they fall asleep pretty easily and those are my favorite moments of the weekends, all cuddled up together under our special "nap blanket".

Love, love, LOVE the way you personalize the onesies for your youngest. I have another one on the way in September and will definitely be doing some of that. Who doesn't love onesies? They are the greatest things EVER!

Whew! This is a crazy, busy time of year, isn't it? Your garden veggies look yummy! Ours hasn't started yet, which is good since I have two more weeks of school! My mom made your fudge pie, and it is super yummy! I told her that we can always count on good stuff from your kitchen!

Not that you asked for the advice, but...here goes anyway...it's free, and may just be worth what you paid for it!

When my 3 boys were deciding that they were ready to give up those afternoon naps, I told them that maybe they were about ready for 'big boy rest time'. The rules were the same as for 'nap time'...you had to stay in bed, BUT...if you were big enough, you could 'read' a book instead of sleep. Worked like a charm. They were happy to think they were getting out of a nap, but they would usually fall asleep rather quickly after looking at only a few pages. And, I still got my 'alone' time, too. As they got older, they actually DID begin to spend the time reading...which was a good thing, too. We just changed the name again to 'reading time'.

My four year old daughter recently stopped sucking her thumb and we are in the same boat - no naps or peace and quiet!

Oh, I forgot about those jammies! They are so sweet on her.

We lost naps in our house too. Yet the 3 yr old desperately needs them.

I'm shocked you blog at all with the ages of your crew. Not to mention sew, cook, garden and design. Don't forget mentor, guide and love all of those sweet offspring. Didn't even mention husband time.

You must have more hours in your day than I do. Do you know where I can I buy some extra hours somewhere?

Preciousness- those kiddos are so darling!
We all need quiet time... even if it's shared with a sweet little one.

WE LOVE whiffle ball too!!!! EC and Wilson both cna hit it good and I always have to watch out for Will hitting me too -

I agree with Tonja - I don't make Emma Claire take a nap everyday anymore, but she does have to have a "rest" or "quiet" time (books, drawing, movie, etc) while the boys nap - she usually ends up falling asleep anyways during this time, but she is more willing b/c she doesn't think she "HAS" to sleep. Good luck!!!!

Oh, I am feeling your pain. My 3 year old stopped napping WAY before I thought she would and it is a hard thing to get used to. I love the extra time with her most days, but it can be very exhausting! : )

LOVE the onesie for your little one. Adorable.

I'm a new follower to your blog. I think I've commented once or twice before. You are amazing. The pictures are great. What a fun idea for a sprinkler party. I just planted my garden last night. I hope our peas come out as nice as yours did. Have a great day.

I am new to your blog and I have enjoyed reading it! I would love to know how you got your child to stop sucking her thumb. My 2 year old sucks hers at nap and bedtime or anytime she has her blankie or other soft stuffed animal. Would love suggestions! Thanks, Meredith

My oldest is in the process of giving up naps. It is another tough phase of parenthood! On days when she doesn't nap she has roomtime which gives me some peace and quiet but I still miss the days of two to three hour afternoon naps!
