Day 21::Mugs & More...

mugs

First, T H A N K Y O U ! What an awesome response to yesterday's post about Patrick. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your prayers for such a wonderful young man. His family was humbled and grateful to read through all your kind words, prayers and comments. The biopsy went well and unfortunately it is "the best of the worse". It is cancer:: Hodgkin's Lymphoma. And while the family is devestated and heart broken they are also very grateful that Hodgkin's Lymphoma is a cancer with good cure rates. I'm not sure they know the stage of Patrick's cancer but there is hope for complete remission... and that is what they are praying for. They will allow his body 4 or 5 days to recover from surgery and then begin with the chemo/radiation regimen to kill the cancer.

Second, every time I post I laugh at myself: "One picture a day and few to no words." What was I thinking? I am so incapable of that. I didn't even really try. So, instead you get one to two pictures everyday and lots of words! I hope you all are ok with my failure. I find it laughable.

So... the mugs. I've always wanted "diner mugs" and now I have them! I love them so much I figured they were "post-worthy". We are hosting a small group in our home on Monday nights... I could think of no better reason to finally buy the mugs of my dreams. Thick and heavy, sure to keep your coffee warm and they just plain feel good to hold! I looked online for these babies but wasn't willing to fork over $5 each. These came from the local restaurant supply store for $1.25 each. Score!

John Martin. This child that I love is still killing me. It's really in his favor that I find him so unbelievably irresistible, otherwise I'd find a baby bootcamp and send him for a week. Look at those lips. Ahh.. kissable. Anyway, we're still hoping for some sleep soon. One tooth has broken the surface of his gums and I'm hoping that now we will have some good sleep... until the next tooth rears it's ugly head! Thanks for continued prayers for him. He is still crying it out and I'm sweating it out!

your failure is my victory! i was so bummed when i thought you were going to drop the words... and i couldn't figure out why. then i kept logging on and you kept writing, so i thought maybe i misunderstood!:-) anyway, your words are soothing, entertaining and always welcome, so don't think it's a failure, it was just a bad idea to start with!

I am oh so with you on those kissable lips! How is the head scratching with all the crying??? Hang in there, it will all be worth it when he starts letting you both sleep through the night.

i don't think you are supposed to say yay for hodgkins, but i'll go with it anyway since appropriate words escape me. i prayed for him several several times yesterday. i'm glad the surgery went well and that you have a wide fan base to pray for him!! since when does dothan have a restaurant supply store and where is it?? do they have the little diner baskets that you'd get burgers and fries in? i'm not sure why, but i have always wanted some. i think i'm crazy.
jm...i hope your 2nd tooth is easier on you. the first top one for sis was the devil. it's partner that is working down now isn't half as bad. won't you please sleep for your momma? and he looks like both of his sisters. how sweet and cute. i could still just sop him up.

Better to cry it out now Darby than when they are 19 months old. We did the cry it out all week last week and it worked! The pitiful part is when they can talk and cry out your name in a sweet voice...Mama, peas (please). As for the teeth, have you tried Hyland's teething tablets? You can get them at Walgreens. They are all natural and WONDERFUL! I tried one before I gave it to MM and it numbed the tip of my tounge a bit. The tablets dissolve quickly so you don't have to worry about choking. You can also rub it until it dissolves on his gums.

I wanted to post last time you mentioned about crying it out because I remember your saying something about him going hoarse. I just have to comment today.

When my first child was a baby, I remember making her cry it out. After all that screaming and my walks to the mailbox and blow drying my hair and playing with the dog outside, she was still going nuts. I was convinced she was going to sound like a "smoker" with a raspy voice once she started talking. She finally got the hang of it and to this day is a fantastic sleeper - at night and for naps at 3 1/2. BTW, she doesn't have a smoker's voice.

My second child was the head scratcher. Ear scratcher, face scratcher, anything! I finally put a little blanket in his hands and walked out. He, too, figured it out and relies on a blanket to self soothe. Babies are smart, but we mommies need to be even smarter.

Keep it up. You're giving him a gift, by teaching him how to sleep, while trying not to lose any yourself.

Sorry for being so long-winded. One more thing - you are so fun! When I come visit you everyday, I feel like I'm meeting a friend each time. I appreciate you.

Have to say that I love your blog, and I'm also happy that you didn't last on the no words experiment. We need words from ladies like you! When my oldest was little she had a really tough time sleeping, and my sister who is a Doctor suggested just giving her tylenol before bed. It's not addictive, and you can tell when he's over the teething and stop giving it to him, but it may ease his pain and help your sleep. 2 good things if you ask me :)

Mary Reese and I have added Patrick to our blessings and nighly prayer. I know his family must be scared to death. Please continue to keep us posted on his condition.

Have you tried Hurricane gel for the teeth---it's like a extra-extra-strength Orajel. You find it at drugstores---but you have to go to the pharmacy part and ask for it. You don't have to have a prescription---but, at least at the CVS in Bham--they keep it behind the counter. I gave it to my two and it works/numbs instantly. Then, I would chase it with tylenol/ibruprohen (butchered that spelling) so that it would have kicked in by the time the hurricane gel wore off.

Still, though, on the really bad nights I remember my daughter screaming for up to 2 hours straight. So not fun!!
