There's Power in the Blood

Happy Good Friday to all of y'all. The girls and I spent some time this morning reflecting/coloring-out the events of the day that took place over 2000 years ago. MommaSis' is the one who started all of this "make-your-own color sheets". Shes' a much better artist than myself but I gave it a shot anyway. Using paper from a roll {that I bought at the teacher supply store} I taped it down to the girls table and sketched out a few scenes from the crucifixtion of Christ along with a few snippets of scripture from the gospel of Matthew in their children's Bible. Then I let them loose with crayons and waited for them to ask what all the words said...

It didn't take long for her to ask, "Mommy, what do all those words say?"

I delight in watching them learn about Scripture. I pray that it has a lasting effect on their souls.

After we colored this morning Paige helped me feed John Martin some cheerios. She gave him the ROYAL treatment!

And she made a ROYAL mess.

All that work left the princess herself little famished.

I screamed a little because my children don't obey me EVER and then we went to the park to swing a little! This is for you MommaSis'!

There are two songs that really speak to me about the crucifixtion and resurrection of Christ. One being Power in the Blood and the other Amazing Love by Chris Tomlin...

Power in the Blood {Lewis E Jones 1899}

Would you be free from the burden of sin?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Would you o’er evil a victory win?
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r
In the blood of the Lamb;
There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r
In the precious blood of the Lamb.
Would you be free from your passion and pride?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Come for a cleansing to Calvary’s tide;
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.
Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Sin-stains are lost in its life-giving flow;
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.
Would you do service for Jesus your King?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Would you live daily His praises to sing?
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

Amazing Love by Chris Tomlin

I’m forgiven because You were forsaken,
I’m accepted, You were condemned.
I am alive and well, Your spirit is within me,
Because You died and rose again.

Amazing love,
How can it be
That You, my King,
would die for me?

Amazing love,
I know it’s true.
It’s my joy to honor You,
In all I do, I honor You.

I’m forgiven because You were forsaken,
I’m accepted, You were condemned.
I am alive and well, Your spirit is within me,
Because You died and rose again.

You are my King
Jesus You are my King

I've always loved Fernando Ortega's rendition of Power in the Blood, but I came across this one and it makes me want to put on a choir robe, raise my hands towards heaven and sway from the choir loft. You can hear Amazing Love here.

Rejoicing today because the story doesn't end at the crucifixtion...

What a wonderful way to teach your kiddos the meaning of this day.
Down here in Brazil, Good Friday is a National Holiday. Such days usually mean a lot of festivities among the natives, but today, it was eerily quiet - for me, meaningfully, and rightfully so.
Have a Happy and Blessed Easter.

Amen! I love it all... the drawings, the coloring action, the cheerios, that toothless grin in the swing... priceless! And well worth the wait. I hope John Martin's cousin is as cute as he is... but hopefully she'll sleep more and not be so hornet-fied.
I love you. Happy Good Friday!

I love the idea with the kids, and those songs are wonderful, aren't they? My dad was the worship leader in our church when I was younger; I cherish hymns, and love the new stuff too!

What an excellent idea to have the girls color the crucifixion story. Those are the things that they will remember. The illustrations you give them are shaping their image of God!
