Before I shut my mouth...
First, I'm already sweating no words for a month! It should definitely be a challenge and I love a challenge.
Second, I got all these shoes at Shoe Carnival yesterday. When we moved last year I put all my winter shoes {boots & dress shoes} in a garbage bag to move! A giant NO NO around here. They all got tossed. Slowly but surely I'm reloading. I'm about the cheapest person on the planet and even TJMaxx's shoes are too much for me. Well... praise the Lord... look what I found. The red ones were $5 {and they're LEATHER}, the brown ones were $6, and the black & navy were $7! How 'bout that ladies!? Aren't they cute!?
Third, I'm all ears for THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN CHARLESTON. Susie, said to email her... but blasted blogger doesn't attach your email addresses. So... comment and tell me your favorite must see and do's in Charleston. Justin's been before. I've not. We do have dinner plans every night for wedding festivities. If y'all want real words and not just pictures you'll have to check Erika's blog post-trip.
Fourth, a HUGE HIGH FIVE to the Hill family on their new addition, Gracie! Way to go Kristen! We're praying for a speedy recovery! Good job, dad on the updates and Caroline, you're going to be an awesome big sister!

What a shoe nightmare! Love those and I'll have to check the shoe carnival across the street from us! Thanks for the tip and have a great trip!
Charleston is my home town! You won't have time for all of this but here are my favorite restaurants:
Breakfast/Brunch at Hominy Grill: www.hominygrill.com
Lunch at Rue de Jean: www.39ruedejean.com
BBQ at Jim & Nicks: www.jimnnicks.com
Delicious thai food: www.basilthairestaurant.com
Pizza: www.monzapizza.com
Seafood: www.wreckrc.com
All of those places are in downtown Charleston except for the Wreck. If you have time, you should go to a neighborhood in Mt. Pleasant called the Old Village...beautiful, old homes on the harbor with a ton of charm. The Wreck is located at the back of this neighborhood on Shem Creek (great seafood). You should also go out to Sullivans Island if you have time and take a walk on the beach...and then eat at Poe's (www.poestavern.com). There's an antique/thrift store on your way out to Sullivans called Paige's Thieves Market...usually has some good stuff!
Other things...walk down King Street for shopping - cute (but expensive) shops like Copper Penney, Luna, and Dumas (for your husband); walk through the residential part of downtown ("South of Broad" area)...Meeting Street, East Bay, South Battery, Tradd Street...all gorgeous homes and be sure to peek through the gates to see all of the beautiful gardens.
I have plenty more ideas but I'm sure that's more than you have time for anyways. Have a great trip!
PS - your blog is great and i find so much inspiration from your posts!
We were in Charleston just this past July and we visited:
*Fort Sumter National Monument
*Patriots Point Naval Maritime Museum (We didn't do the museum but looked at all the boats or shall I say ships and the kids loved that)
*We walked down Rainbow Row in Downtown Charleston. The houses are so pretty and all different colors. You can also see Fort Sumter out in the water here. There are also Canons in the park there as well.
*There is also a little outside shopping in Downtown Charleston called The Market. You will have a hard time finding parking. Well, at least we did in July.
*We stayed on Folly Beach so we visited downtown Folly and the lighthouse there on the beach.
*We also are military and checked out the AFB there.
Hope you have a great time. We love Charleston it has so much charm.
OMG, what a nightmare to throw out your shoes. A friend helped me pack for a move once and did not tell me she packed 1/2 the kitchen in a garbage bag. I threw out a ton of Pampered Chef.
I already left this on Erika's blog, but I feel the need to tell you too! You must go to Cupcake! http://www.freshcupcakes.com/
Mmm...so good! And the perfect place to take a break on King St.
Y'all have fun!!
I live in Mt. Pleasant, just over the big bridge...I think you should travel over the 5 min. and eat at Vickery's on Shem Creek, The Blvd. Diner on Coleman Blvd.(been in Southern Living), shop at Out of Hand in the Old Village on Pit Street and you can eat lunch there at the Post House...the Wreck is around the corner that someone mentioned above...., Go out to the beach at the Isle of Palms and eat at the Boathouse on Breech Inlet...brunch on Sun. is good too...you call to get reservations....buy yourself a Sweetgrass Basket at the market on King St. downtown or around there somewhere as your take home treasure...classic Charleston cerci...shop anywhere on King St. downtown, or wander around...Carolinas and Magnolias have good fine dining lunches...both are downtown, dress is casual...The Mellow Mushroom on King is a good pizza/beer joint...Wander around the Battery and look at the beautiful homes...I always love to be on foot b/c you can see inside of many of the houses...Eat some local seafood...If I think of other things..I will come back and post again....Have fun! Mandy
What fabulous shoe finds, Darby! I love them! We don't have a Shoe Carnival, but I am wishing we did!
Have a great trip to Charleston....I hear it is a phenomenal place to visit. It is on my "bucket list " for sure!
Hey Darby! I lived in Charleston for 8 years...moved there after I left Auburn. I just moved up to Greenville so I"m not there anymore but Charleston is one of my favorite places! All of the places mentioned in the comments above are great! Rue de Jean is a great suggestion and so is the Wreck! If you have time to check out the Farmers Market downtown at Marion Square on Saturday morning, that is a must! You'll love it! Besides all of the other places mentioned, you should try the Rooftop bar on top of the Vendue Inn downtown. There's a great fabric store in Mt. Pleasant called GDC...it's on your way out to Sullivan's Island which was mentioned above as well...pricy, but fun to look around...might have good sales after Christmas. I hope you love it! Have fun!
I have no suggestions as far as Charleston, but have fun!! We definately missed you all at Christmas! It's just not the same without my favorite cousins! Have a great time! I love you!!
We live in summerville just outside of charleston, Poe's Tavern is a must on Sullivans Island. They have the BEST fish tacos!!! Love your blog, your kids are too cute!!!
We live in Charleston too! The weather is perfect right now. All of the above are great suggestions:)
Nap. Find a great Spa. Sip and may I repeat, sip coffee. No gulping. This will be a fun weekend-all about fun and relaxation!
Those are all great suggestions. There is a great heirloom store in Summerville very close to the interestate. It's called Sew n Sew. They sell Vikings. I might visit the Pink Crocodile (Summerville) if you come this way too! I can meet y'all there, Dena would love it. If you do come there is a really cool quilting store too>>>they do have a store in Charleston though if you don't make it this far. It's called People Places and Quilts. I would skip the touristy stuff and just try to eat your way through Charleston. I've never been somewhere where there were so many great restaurants! When are you coming?
PS, skip Hymans, its a seafood reataurant with a looooong line usually. It's famous but I don't know why, all their fish is frozen not fresh..it is yuck.
Gracie is looking forward to seeing your pictures and hearing about the trip. Thanks for the shout out, hospital life has been relaxing - your encouragement has been HUGE - thanks for your prayers. Travel safe, find us when you get back.
Darby!
I see several of my friends already commented on the good stuff. You need to stop in Summerville and see Sew n Sew and People, Places and Quilts for sure, you would LOVE them both. Enjoy the wedding, dance and eat lots and call if you can meet up 568-7830 or 873-9213!
Mandy...You are 100% right! I would follow her advise and you won't be sorry! The Wreck is a must, too!
I went to Charleston a long time ago and we visited this beautiful house where I think part of the miniseries North & South was filmed.
Hope you guys have fun!
Darby I (your cousin in law) am in Charleston too, too bad I don't now where you guys will be. I think you should absolutely stop at Kaminsky's Most Excellent Cafe - they spelled it wrong ha. But anyway, it's a little dessert and coffee and martini place on Market Street, the desserts are made fresh daily! Completly scrumptous - have fun at the wedding, if you go down to the Market on Saturday I might see ya downtown because I love walking around and looking at everything.
i can't believe they threw out your shoes!
that's tragic.
i am just like you when it comes to shoes...i can't stand to pay. i am always at target, payless and shoe carnival. i never get the tjmaxx shoes either. $50 heels are still $50 - i don't care what brand they are! :)
those are sassy shoes.
also i like when my mom buys me nice ($) shoes. those are good too.
Great job, This content is very very great content, I got really good information from this content and it helps me a lot, I hope it can help many people like me.
