A Good Update

Hello Friends!

Bear with me... E called and talked to Justin around 11 pm... Hornet kept us up last night and Justin left around 4:30 am so I'm going on what I remember her telling him last night. Brainwaves please connect!

From what I gather, Dr. Neurology fully redeemed his rapport among the family when he FINALY arrived last night for a consultation. He stuck around for a long time, answered everyone's questions, became DaddyBoy's new best friend, and told Chance to watch out for those garage doors . He said at Chance's age {35, I think} it is safer to allow the blood that has pooled between his brain and skull to reabsorb {that's my word... I don't know medical terms} into his system on it's own rather than to go in and attempt to drain it surgically. The blood is 8mm thick and hasn't changed. I was thinking all day that it was 8mm in circumference but apparently that's the thickness. {Again, I'm sure there's a fancier term for thickness.}

Chance is still in ICU. DaddyBoy drove Erika home last night and stayed the night with her. Chance's parents stayed over night at the hospital with him {well, not really with him because they can't with him in ICU but you know what I mean}.

The doctor confidently said that Chance will fully recover from this with no damage to his brain, just his ego. He will be in the hospital at least until Sunday and then will have to take it very easy for 30 days and they will closely monitor him during that time. The only risk of leaving the blood in there is a seizure but that is why they've ordered him to take it easy.

So, that's all I know for now! Sorry I couldn't get my sorry carcass out of bed last night at 11pm and come tell y'all all of that. I subtly hinted to Justin that I'd like him to come out here and update the blog... he laughed.

Mom and I will decide today what we are going to do. Mom will probably make her way down there. Justin just so happens to be working in Ft. Walton Beach these next two days so he will be able to be with them. I will probably stay put with the crumb-crunchers.

DaddyBoy literally walked out of work when he heard about this, went straight to O'Hare and flew out. He had to go shopping last night when he got in, he only had the clothes on his back. Hopefully he thought to ask his new best friend, Dr. Neurology, to fill his prescriptions that he forgot to bring with him.

As I know more, I'll share. Aren't ya'll glad I'm a girl? If Justin had agreed to update, it would go like this: Chance is doing well, still in ICU, no surgery needed, will be in hospital at least 'til Sunday.

Thank y'all for all your comments and prayers.

Psalm 116:1-2: I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.

Praise the Lord! This is great news, Darby. I've continued to pray and asked others as well, so Chance has a swift, non-eventful recovery.

You're all truly blessed to be surrounded by so many who love you.

That's great news that they don't have to do surgery and he's going to fully recover. I woke up this morning thinking of Erika and Chance and was hoping you had been able to update! I'll keep praying that he has a speedy recovery and no seizures.

Great update! So glad to hear!!
YAY God (since my brainwaves aren't up this morning, either)! I'm glad that things are on a joking course instead of anything else. What nice orders to take it easy! That's wonderful. I'm glad Dr. Neurology made good.
We will continue to keep you all in our prayers for a smooth transition back home and a brief stay in the hospital!

Great News! Even though we don't know each other, I found myself thinking about your sister and brother in law before I closed my eyes and right when I woke up this morning. I was anxious to get to my office this morning to check for an update! So relieved that things are looking bright. The tight bond you and your family share sure is inspirational. Oh, and your
crumb-crunchers....they're just adorable!
Take care,
Allie from NJ

I feel asleep praying for yall! PTL for that update! Yeah! {PS don't beat yourself up over not posting the updates in a hurry or last night even....we all spent that much more time in prayer to our God on Chance's behalf, our faith had a chance to grow...(no pun intended but kinda neat huh!?) No time spent in prayer is wasted!

Yes...men don't give the details in quite the same way that women do! Glad to hear things are improving. You and Erika have such an amazing family. I can't imagine having such a great father like Daddyboy!

Darby thank you so much for the good news. I don't normally leave a comment here, but I follow almost daily. When things settle a bit- let Erika know her camera buddy and pancake fan (in a can) is sending her many prayers and hugs.

All my best-

Oh, thank god! What good news. Love to Erika, Chance and the whole family!

Isn't is great to have a father who drops everything when his daughters are in need. I have one of those too and I don't know how I'd get through life without him.

just got caught up on the situation. my prayers are with ya'll. the icu and hospital suck. i know the fear ya'll are feeling. here's my one piece of advice from experience: you are your only advocate in the hospital. ask ask ask. bug bug bug. if you worry the answer is not good enough ask for a second consultation. your nurses (especially in icu) are your best friends. the icu floor doctor is also your best friend. while they are the last to know anything, usually, they also are the ones who see your loved one 24 hours a day. they can push to the specialty doctors like no one else can. i pray for peace, healing and patience. these things are hard.

It is so crazy how you can feel so connected to someone just from reading their blog. It's impossible to read her blog & not know what an incredibly special person she is.When I heard of Chances accident, my eyes just welled with tears. Erika has provided me with many much needed smiles over the past year, & to think of her & Chance having such a scary, experience just breaks my heart! I am so happy to hear some good news.
