2 crafts & 2 little girls {for DaddyBoy}
First, I'll show you what I've been working on.
You know I have a problem.
I like to make stuff.
So first I made this.
Let's call it a WAR EAGLE WREATH!
- 6 spools of wired ribbon from Michaels {3 of each color}
- a 12" wreath form {$2.99}
- a coupon from the Sunday paper {or two}
Just tie a BUNCH of bows and voila... you're done!
I alternated the rings of the wreath to make it "fuller". Once all the bows are tied you can trim the ends and adjust your wired bows to make them all look pretty. I dug {in the scorching hot garage} for my AU Christmas ornament. It just has a big AU {no santa or anything} but couldn't find it. Instead, I decided I'd stitch out a tiger to accompany the bows. But I think it'd be cute with or without him! Anyway, you oughta give it a try {and please show me if you do}! I got the idea from here. If anyone is expecting a baby it would be really cute with an assortment of pink or blue bows too!
When I was at Michaels searching for my ribbon... I ran into these 2 "spooky" stinkers. Dad gum they're so stinkin' cute I couldn't resist. They're in the fall flowers {towards the front of the store where all the fake flowers are}. They're called "Fall Birds" and on sale this week {reg. $4.99}. I paired them with this {this one is 18"}...
which was also in my garage but covered in a baby blue boa from when JM was born. I stripped the blue boas off and added 2 black boas {which I bought at a local costume shop for $3.99... they're $12 or $15 at Michaels so I can't recommend you buy them there}. I used fine gauge wire to attach the boas and 1/4" white elastic to attach the owls. This one took 1/2 as long as the bows and the bows didn't take long. The owls come in 3 different colors. I decided on white for mine. If I had a money tree I'd buy about 6 owls and put them all the way around.
And wouldn't you know when I got it all done I realized my door is black and it may not even show up. Do you think Justin would mind if I asked him to paint the back door just for the "Halloween" season so I could hang my black wreath? Hmm... probably not!
I was on the phone with DaddyBoy while in the carpool lane at preschool today and I was telling him what the girls were up to in the backseat and how the Raiger had on a "B" crown. He said, "snap a picture and send it to me!" Well, I snapped a picture and I'm going to show DaddyBoy and the rest of the blog nation...
Paige told me that she played with toys at Mother's Morning Out. Morgan interrupted us...
"Paiger, I go to big girl school now. It's called preschool. And we have to learn stuff!"
Still contemplating a move... I'll let you know!

Ooooh, I want to make a wreath right this minute! Those are both adorable - thanks for the ideas! I'm already getting excited to put out Halloween decorations, so I'm glad to see someone else is thinking along the same lines. :) Actually, I bought some candy corn today. I was at the store and that Brach's bag was calling my name! (Have you ever mixed a bag of candy corn with salted peanuts...yuuummmmm!)
Ok, even though I am an Alabama fan, that wreath is really cute! I would love to make a Bama one, but my AU husband would surely veto that.
I also saw those birds at Michael's. Some of them were kinda creepy!
Love the Preschool breakdown by M.! :)
It should be illegal to be as crafty as you are...will you please come to Decatur for a weekend?? We're in the same boat as in we both have problems....yours is making stuff, mine is making stuff and quitting half way through it! I need you up here to do a crafting and sewing boot camp for me. What do you say? Oooh, or better yet, we can schedule this boot camp next time I visit my dad. How's that?!
I just finished some FSU hairbows for Sophie from your tutorial. Maybe I will try a wreath out with my leftover garnet and gold ribbon. :)
You are so stinkin cool - I love you Darby - I want to be like you! (and I've never even met you!!! =)
super cute...even if it is auburn!! my neighbor asked me yesterday to make her an auburn wreath and the only kind that came to mind was the boa wreaths (i made some for my babies too!) but i may just suggest this kind!!
also, have you seen the diaper wreaths for babies (where you tie actual diapers and toys around the wreath?) if not, let me know and i'll send you a few pics!! my email is btuckerrn@att.net
your creativity never ceases to amaze me! i may give the "war eagle wreath" a try!
Your wreaths are so cute! I was thinking I wanted to do a craft project this weekend and this would be precious...so cute and crafty..we are stuck inside due to tropical storm Hanna so this will be perfect....Thanks, Mandy
Love this idea with the bows. Are you planning to move???
Love this idea, really great for this time of year and planning to make one for my UVA husband to surprise him!
Both wreaths are so stinkin' cute!!! I must make a garnet and black Gamecock wreath. Even though they shamed themselves on ESPN tonight!! Those girls are awfully stinkin' cute too!!!
Ok supermom, you did it again!!! When do you find the time to do all of the these "extras" with 3 kids? Put the smocking/wreath making/etsy shop aside, Im thinking you need to be teaching parenting classes:)
I think your next project should be a red and black wreath for the GA Bulldogs:)
If you ever do go to Decatur for a sewing boot camp as suggested... I'm there. I got a sewing machine for Christmas 2 years ago and I still have never used it. I don't know how to get started or when to find the time to do it. How to do get all of this stuff done? Maybe I need to switch to Diet Coke because you are Erika are very impressive! You guys run on a different kind of fuel than I do!
I love the wreath! I've got a baby wreath to do for someone so I way have to try it! Crafty momma you are amazing!
Lurker...coming out of hiding here. I'm amazed at your craftiness! I made your Peep wreath in the Spring and will have to try these too. Thanks for being so inspiring and sharing your creativity!
I'd love to see pics of the nursery you've created for your son. I just found out that I'm having a boy!
these are both so great! I think I remember your sister doing a massive post on wreaths during Christmas last year, so ya'll much share that affinity.
thanks, darby! one day i'll be a big girl crafter like you!! i'm itchin' to make me a ribbon wreath now!!
There you go again. Impressing me like you always do and we don't even know each other! The orange and blue makes us family I guess- war eagle and thanks for always sharing your crafty ideas :)
Very fun! I just love to see what you've been working on! It inspires me to sew more! When do you have time? I can do a little each night, but it seems to take forever to finish a project that way! Why did you decide to get a new sewing machine? Just wondering.
I do not know where you find the time to be so creative, let alone bring your ideas to fruition! Love ya Darby!
God has placed the idea of a move in your head for a reason. I think you should go ahead and do it. Just promise to take us all along.Love this blog!!
