Bed bugs...

Morgan will be 4 years old in November. She's never had her picture made by a professional. Neither has the Raiger. Nor young John Martin for that matter. I'm glad I held out. Erika got a new camera several months ago and has had a few pointers from a pro. The results have been second to none. {For those of you who don't read her blog... she posted a different picture yesterday}. For weeks I've been telling her I want pictures made in our bed. Is that weird? I don't think so. It's one of my most favorite spots in our house. If we'd allow it, all the kids would sleep there with us. Erika wasn't sure she could capture it. The walls are dark and she wasn't sure there was enough light... I'm not an expert but they look pretty good to me.

She and Chance were coming back through town to pick up the pups and said, "We'll be there in about 15 minutes... if you still want me to take your pictures take a shower and get ready." Well, needless to say, I went without a shower. One day she'll realize you can't call a mother of three and say "take a shower" because unless the munchkins are sleeping it's merely impossible. This is what she captured upon her arrival...

I've not done a post on our bedroom so I'll incorporate some info in this post and consider it the "bedroom remodel" post.

Our bedroom before {rather atrocious}:

And after {please ignore that my comforter is not in a duvet}:

I believe Erika is doing another post today on my bedroom but here are the facts in case you are wondering...

  • the walls are Java by Eddie Bauer Home for Lowe's
  • the headboard is Pottery Barn {but Erika found it at Goodwill... score!}
  • the sheets are Vera Wang for Kohl's
  • the pillows are by yours truly {the monogramming not the actual assembly}
  • the nightstands came from TJ Maxx
  • the lamps came from Hancocks Fabrics
  • the kleenex box came from Walmart
  • the drapery rods came from Lowes
  • the curtains came from JcPenney {Wendy Thermal-lined pinch pleated}

I think that's it! And now I'm really bothered by the fact that I took these pictures {several months ago} before I realized that I had the wrong lamp shade on one of the lamps... they match now. Not that any of you probably noticed anyway!

Toodles poodles!

Those are great! Love the one of Morgan on the bed and the family pic!
p.s. I wish I looked that good without a shower!

What lovely pictures! I like that they radiate love and aren't stuffy studio portraits.

Your bedroom looks so pretty. I love the serene color palette. I can't believe the head board came from Goodwill! I never find anything good. I love the bedskirt and the filigree embroidery on the pillows is beautiful.

I saw the picture yesterday from Erika's blog - oh my soul, I thought that was the neatest thing! (And not a bit weird to take photos in the bedroom =). I just think the pictures really capture what your family looks like, a typical moment, etc. So cool! You don't need a professional!!

PS I am all for avoiding a professional for any/our future kiddos. Hence my need to save for and buy this crazy camera I've been coveting for 2 yrs now!

I too, have not had any professional portraits done of any of my children (except for school pictures, if that counts - though I do dress them to the nines for those - just IN CASE they turn out excellent!!) Anyways, the shots are awesome, LOVE LOVE LOVE the one of Morgan and the black and white of Paige and JM!!! Your family is gorgeous - you too w/o a shower!!??

Love your blog! Your family is precious! I've been reading Erika's blog for design tips for the last few months and saw the picture she took of your family and found your blog too. I too graduated from Auburn a few years ago and now work for the university while my husband is finishing his last few months of pharmacy school here. War Eagle! Just thought I would say hi!

You have a gorgeous family! I think the photos turned out well. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who hasn't had their kids pictures taken professionally - we haven't been to a photo studio in over 3 years.

I can't stand it, must leave a comment! I've tried to stay quiet lately, but have to say I LOVE THIS post. Nothing sweeter than sweet little children. I'm so glad you have a sister who can provide this kind of portrait for you. It's precious.

The headboard from Goodwill? Guess what???? I think it came from my house!!! Did you get it last summer?

Darby...what a lovely family portrait! And it's all the more special that Erika took it. Hope I get to see you again soon (and meet those beautiful children of yours), it was such a treat to see Erika on her visit to Boston.

No joke, I looked at that first picture and I thought "It's the Jolie-Pitts, but even more beautiful." I think Erica missed her calling. Oh wait, she's an incredible decorator too...Can a person have two callings?

I purchased the same Wendy Thermal Pinch Pleat drapes from JcPenny. How did you hang your drapes? I can't figure out how to do it so they look right! Thanks!

Darby,

I am trying to find the super cute Halloween ghosts you made for your front door. You made them out of felt and put them over tomato cages. Where can I find the tutorial on your blog? Thanks, Hattie

This is very good news and very good idea to give a private version of stack overflow Q & A. Because there are many numbers of government and private organization who needs stack overflow Q & A. As a company employee I would to use private version. And also, I would recommend Stack overflow to work on Bangladesh. because of two reasons. the first is a large number of population. second is your work is perfect that Bangladesh needs you.
